What about the Birds?

We’re big fans of Hitchcock in our house, and among our favorites is The Birds. It’s a seasonal, spooky watch for us that always garners the same response as the opening credits roll: “Hey, this is based off a Daphne Du Maurier story. We should get that.” Which makes more sense knowing that we’re also quite fond of Du Maurier’s Rebecca. Well this year I decided to pull the trigger—only to find out that getting the story is not so easy. The edition I wanted is part of a collection that is not available in the US, so I had to order one from a UK vendor. Yet having to work to secure this story from abroad somehow seems all the more fitting for the curious and perplexing movie we know so well.
