Train sound

I live a few miles from a rail line. Freight trains pass by on a very rugular basis, most often in the waning hours of the afternoon or early evening. I love hearing their whistle call out and the thrum of their wheels on the track. It’s soothing and is just the passive way I love feeling connected to those around me.

We used to live about the same distance from a major airport, and while the sense of connection is similar, it was an entirely different dynamic. Planes taking off and landing grate against the natural ebb and flow of their surrounds. Trains, while no less loud when up close, seem to become a part of their environment. There’s a romance to a train that airplanes today just lack.
