The kitchen salon

This afternoon my brother-in-law stopped over for an unplanned visit. He had some spare time, works nearby, and wanted to come by and chew the fat a bit with us. All told we ended up chatting around the kitchen bar for almost two hours.

It’s a small thing, maybe, but the conversation was lively and ranged from finance to science to the political landscape across the globe.

Those sorts of random, off-the-cuff engagements are some of the most nourishing for me. They feel good. They feel wholesome. I love the comfort and ease and interest they suggest and the act of simply partaking in those kinds of discussions is a fine way to reframe one’s sometimes laser focus on things that may not warrant it.
